Dr. Schmidt and His Traveling Post Card
Dr. Schmidt has a soft spot for postcards that traveled further than most collectors ever expect — small pieces of paper that crossed an ocean before anyone thought to save them. This one left Chicago in November 1898, addressed to Mr. Andr. Lehmeyer of Leipzig, Germany, and it still carries every postmark from the journey: the Chicago cancellation, the transit stamps, and the Leipzig receiving mark nearly two weeks later. Watch the video below for the full story of how it found its way into Dr. Schmidt’s collection.
